Momentum Transfer
TechTransferring momentum into momentum with a ball
A momentum transfer is transferring any momentum you gain into momentum with the ball. When you grab a ball you retain the momentum you had when you grabbed it leading to an increased movement speed over just sprinting normally with the ball.
To Perform
There are many different ways a momentum transfer can be done (any way you can gain speed and then grab a ball). The most common way from rest though is to do the following
-
Find a way to gain height, you can accomplish this in many ways, for example an Air Stall, Click Beetle ability, Longhorn Beetle ability, etc.
-
Drop the ball while in the air.
-
Glide down in a ╰ like manner or J like shape (deep dive).
-
Grab the ball and enjoy your speed :).
The momentum transfer technically could refer to any momentum transferred onto the ball but if someone says it in general there will be referred to this way of doing it.
It can also be done from any height and the higher it is done from the more momentum the player will retain therefore the better in most cases.
Momentum transfer is one of the most basic mechanics in Beetleball and a non-debatable fundamental in the game, it is used to gain speed and outrun enemies to quickly get to the goal in order to score. It can be done from a lot of height or from little but in the end it gives you speed.
Goliath Beetle is the only beetle unable to do a momentum transfer (due to the lack of a glide), so to gain similar levels of speed it often must do a Dolphin Dive.
