Pop-Up
TechA simple way to gain height available to all beetles.
About The Technique
The Pop-Up is one of the most basic but important mechanics in the game and is the foundation of aerial play across almost every Beetle. It’s mainly used to quickly gain height while keeping possession of the ball and is often the starting point for more advanced tech and shots.
Execution
To perform a Pop-Up, lightly tap shoot to pop the ball upward — do not hold the shoot button. As soon as your Beetle finishes its shooting animation, Headbutt Grab straight up toward the ball.
Timing is the most important part. If you Headbutt too early while still in the shooting recovery animation, your input will be ignored. Holding the shoot button too long will also send the ball too high, making the Pop-Up slower and less controllable.
A common mistake newer players make is simply headbutting the ball instead of grabbing it. Consistent Headbutt Grabs mostly come down to practice and timing.
Simple Step-by-Step
- Light Tap Shoot
- Wait for Recovery Animation
- Headbutt Grab Upward
Use Cases
The Pop-Up is used to quickly gain height for aerial movement, advanced ball control, and beetle specific shots requiring height. Since so many mechanics build off of it, learning consistent Pop-Ups is considered one of the most important fundamentals in the game.
