Pop-Up
TechA simple way to gain height available to all beetles.
About The Technique
The Pop-Up is a simple but essential maneuver used to gain height and serves as the foundation of aerial play across nearly all Beetles. It is most commonly performed from a grounded position to quickly transition into aerial movement, advanced ball control, or other Beetle specific shooting techniques.
Although mechanically simple, consistent Pop-Ups are an important fundamental skill and are heavily relied upon in both casual and high-level play.
Execution
To perform a Pop-Up, lightly shoot the ball upward using minimal power β do not hold the shoot button, simply tap it. As soon as your Beetle finishes its shooting animation, immediately perform a Headbutt Grab straight upward toward the ball.
Proper timing is extremely important. Using Headbutt too early while your Beetle is still in its shooting recovery animation will cause the input to be ignored entirely, forcing you to release and press the input again. Holding the shoot button for too long will also launch the ball too high, making the Pop-Up less efficient and more difficult to control while additionally leaving you off-ball for longer and increasing the risk of losing possession.
Another common issue players encounter is headbutting the ball without successfully grabbing it mid-air. This is usually caused by inconsistent Headbutt Grab timing and can only be improved through practice and repetition.
Simple Step-by-Step
-
Lightly Tap Shoot
-
Wait for the Shooting Animation to Finish
-
Headbutt Grab Upward Toward the Ball
Use Cases
The Pop-Up is used to quickly gain vertical height while maintaining general possession of the ball. It acts as the foundation for many advanced aerial techniques and offensive plays, allowing players to create angles, position in the air, and transition into stronger attacks.
Because of its versatility and simplicity, mastering the Pop-Up is one of the most important fundamental mechanics in the game.
